Item Description
The eminent Yaogangxian Mine has been producing fine quality display specimen of various minerals for over 20 years. It is without question one of China's top localities. Some of the most recognized minerals from this locality are the beautiful and fine quality Fluorites, found in a variety of colors and styles, often on matrix with various associations. This showy small cabinet specimen features a prominent cubic crystal group of very gemmy, sharp, lustrous, cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring 3.6 cm on edge, showing a mixture of purple and blue colors (best seen in sunlight, as the blue tends to disappear more in indoor lighting), sitting atop a group of well-formed, prismatic Quartz crystals which have a thin coating of micro Dolomite rhombs. The back of the specimen features some flattened crystals of what are most likely Calcite, which have also been enveloped by the Dolomite druse. The Fluorite group is undamaged, and sits beautifully in the center of the specimen. A good-looking and fine quality example of these soon-to-be-classic Fluorite specimens. Valued $3,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#284 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection for the coming months/years through our various platforms.
