Fluorite on Quartz

The 1990's saw a series of significant Fluorite discoveries at the famous mines of Dalnegorsk. While this district has produced a variety of wonderful Fluorites, these particular finds were known for their water-clear, cubic crystals. This very large, small-cabinet specimen features a gemmy, 3 cm Fluorite cube sitting beautifully at 45 degrees atop a Quartz matrix. The silky luster gives the crystal visual 'body', but you can still see included Quartz crystals within the Fluorite! The narrowly-beveled edges add even more interest. The first generation of needle-like Quartz crystals, up to 1.9 cm, are completely coated by a following generation of sharp, sparkly, drusy Quartz crystals. With such good form and aesthetics, this combination piece is highly representative and classic for the famous Dalnegorsk area, and may very well be from the venerable Nikolaevskiy Mine within the district. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces.
