Item Description

The famous pegmatites around Lake George, Colorado (both Park and Teller Counties) are the source for some of the finest Amazonite crystals in the world. There aren't a lot of noteworthy associated species with this material, but the Fluorites are certainly some of the best known examples of the species from anywhere in Colorado. This piece features many sharp, well-formed, very gemmy, cubes with small "built up" faces (some of which are almost certainly tetrahexahedral faces) measuring up to 8 mm on edge sitting on a plate of pink Microcline matrix with minor Smoky Quartz. The color ranges from soft purple to blue hues with a tiny bit of a greenish tinge which changes depending upon which temperature light they're viewed. Nearly every crystal is undamaged, and they look just as good up close as they do from afar. A really good quality and showy specimen of this beloved material from central Colorado. From the collection of Gary Weaver (1944-2019), an electrical engineer who worked for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens, focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
