Fluorite on Fluorite (Hefendehl Coll.)

Item Description

What great color contrast on this Fluorite specimen hosting two distinct generations of Fluorite from South Africa. An early generation of granular, subhedral, purple Fluorite was deposited directly on the light-colored matrix followed by gorgeous green, transparent to translucent Fluorite octahedrons to 3 cm on edge. The underlying Fluorite is really a myriad of tightly intergrown, scintillating, and variegated light to medium purple Fluorite cubes. The sea-green Fluorites are just beautiful and their transparency is high, hidden a little only by their interesting satin luster. These lovely Fluorite octahedrons are reminiscent of those from Riemvasmaak, South Africa but seem to be older, and the contrast of green on purple is something we have not seen elsewhere like this. A rare old fluorite!
