Of all the hundreds of finds and thousands upon thousands of fluorite specimens from China (most of which I dearly love, do not get me wrong), only a few stand out as "famous" pockets of unique style over the last 30 years. One single year saw production of the best of these strange fluorite combo specimens from the old De'An fluorite mine. Other pockets came and went - and still do. But for a few finds in one single year (around 2012, I think), we had something truly different. These are CURVED faces on octahedra, as yet unexplained. The curvature is clearly visible on large crystals like these (to 3 cm). What makes this piece special is the aesthetics, with two nice octo's perched upon contrasting matrix of massive green fluorite. Most pieces were more jumbled and did not have such nice definition. This is complete all around and just has a nice size and balance, making it one of the best in size class for our taste from this amazing find. Valued $4500-5000. A true "old" Chinese classic and also a future classic of fluorite finds, if we are any judge of betting. We purchased probably half the pocket in China at the time - All were sold and now only turn up on the market out of collections. NOTE - these change color in different frequencies of light.
