Fluorite on Dolomite

A fine specimen with sharp purple crystals like jolly ranchers, just sitting nicely isolated on such starkly contrasting matrix! This specimen is not large and does not have large crystals, or special forms; rather, its value is in the aesthetics, which are unusual for this classic American fluorite mine. It simply has amazingly sharp cubes, perfectly formed, accentuated because they show unusual isolation and sit on such a nice matrix for contrast. Many of these fluorites sit on a grayish matrix of solid dolomite (dolostone, as we say); but this is on sparkling little crystals of dolomite atop matrix. It is simply beautiful in its composition. This is probably from the recent era of mining Elmwood in the early 2000s.
