Fluorite on Dolomite

Item Description

This colorful Shangbao Mine piece is host to well over a dozen pastel blue Fluorite crystals set on a matrix of pinkish white Dolomite. The glassy, transparent, pale blue Fluorite cubes vary in size from 1.5 to 2.2 cm across and display pale purple, discontinuous phantoms within a few millimeters of the edges. This cabinet piece has great presentation and geometry with all of the water-clear cubes distributed all over the display front with a pair of intergrown Fluorites perched on the Dolomite at the upper left, otherwise the front is dominated by the lovely intergrown cubes. The Fluorites are so transparent that you can see right through them to the Dolomite matrix! The nearly white, small (3 to 4 mm), saddle-shaped Dolomites provide the perfect substrate and great contrast for the Fluorite crystals. This is an early style of Fluorite from the Shangbao Mine dating back probably 30 years, from the 1990s.
