Item Description

Mineral specimens from this less well-known quarry in the central Kentucky mineral (fluorspar) district are RARE compared to those from the renowned llinois - Kentucky fluorspar district in the western part of the state. Beautiful color-zoned violet fluorite cubes with frosted faces, to 2.0 cm, are aesthetically perched along one edge of an impressive intergrown cluster of translucent blocky white calcite rhombs, some with striking gemmy straw-yellow secondary dogtooth terminations. RARE accessories include brassy chalcopyrite crystals sprinkled on one side and droplets of bitumen noted on both sides of the piece. The bit of noted edge and corner wear to the cubes is certainly only a modest detraction to this VERY RARE and desirable large Kentucky combination.
