Fluorite on Calcite on Fluorite (note locale!)

What an unusual and attractive cabinet piece from Austria! This glistening, white cabinet piece has an interesting paragenesis that is revealed by looking at the entire specimen. The bottom shows an early generation light green, transparent Fluorite growing on a piece of gray matrix and it is subsequently, and completely, overgrown by a later generation of glistening, snow-white, drusy Calcite with crystals from 1 to 2 mm in size. The Calcite highlights the shape of the early Fluorite which are big octahedrons from 1.5 to 4 cm on edge. This was followed by a late phase of Fluorite crystallization featuring 3 to 6 mm, colorless and transparent cubes scattered on the piece, however, there seems to be preferential growth to one side of the specimen. This attractive piece is an aesthetic combination of shapes, textures and colors! According to Hefendehl collection notes in his catalog, this is from an excavation project near Salzburg. We had not seen these before. COMPLETE and showy, all around.
