Item Description

A pair of colorful, lustrous, transparent to translucent, blue and purple Fluorite octahedrons are perched dramatically atop a base of white Calcite from the El Hammam Mine in north central Morocco. This mine is the sole producer of industrial Fluorite in Morocco and has often thrown out new and beautiful pockets of fluorite to collectors, but seldom anything of this style. This stunning piece features a pair of intergrown, essentially parallel growth, Fluorite octahedrons to 4 cm on edge. The color and zoning on this pair is simply impressive with a beautiful medium blue body embellished with distinctly rich purple corners! Octahedral crystals, especially of this color combination, are rare from El Hammam. It is famous for cubic fluorite. The crystals are sharply formed and in excellent condition with only some minor contacting to the back right corner, out of sight. This mine has produced some unusual and very showy Fluorite combination specimens and this piece certainly qualifies. One of the surprises in seeing Erika Pohl's collection is the huge breadth, depth, and variety.
