Fluorite on Baryte

Sculptural and aesthetic, this small cabinet is comprised of grape-purple, lustrous, and cubic Fluorites that are dramatically arranged from one end of the contrasting baryte matrix to the other. The crystals are actually zoned, with phantoms, but the rich, purple color dominates. The Fluorite cubes range up to 2.2 cm on edge. Nice contrasts in both color and shape , between the two species! The Crystal Mine is less well-known in this area, but the quality of these fine purple Fluorites certainly harken to their better-known cousins elswhere in the Cave-in-Rock District. Rare and attractive old-time Fluorite.. Likely mined almost a century ago, you can understand why this locality was, for a long time, referred to as the 'Old Crystal Mine'. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
