Fluorite (old classic)

Item Description

An interesting old American classic fluorite specimen that is one of the older pieces in the Halpern collection, dating back to the 1960s and in the collection by the early 1970s. This is from near-surface mines that were later amalgamated and deepened to produce fluorites decades later (Minerva Mine is in this zone); and they have a very distinct style and color to them compared to material which came out in the 1980s-1990s. This large plate features crystals of 1.5 to 2.5 cm (up to an inch) of this unique purple color and surface texture, nicely isolated on matrix. Such specimens were available on the market in the 1950s-1970s but even then, considered rare. Large specimens such as this, more so.
