Item Description

Fluorite specimens from the much less well-known Kavalerovo Mining District, near Dal"negorsk, Russia are much rarer than from the much more famous nearby Dal"negorsk mines. Distinctive, diagnostic, lustrous and translucent, grayish-green fluorite octahedrons with intense stepped-growth faces are nicely scattered on the undulating cabinet plate covered with glassy quartz crystals having a striking, snow-white quartz coating overgrowth. The sharp, dramatic, large octahedron is 4.5 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm. The scattered clusters of rice grain-like, nubby, siderites are a super colorful accent. Specimens such as this came out in the early 1990s, with none since, as evidenced by the early label for specimens from this area. A very fine large combination plate with excellent character and purple fluorescence. Valued at $1000-1250.
