Fluorite (near ''floater'' ''phantom'' crystal)

The Fluorites from Erongo are some of the most sought after, colorful and unique examples of the species in recent memory. This area is home to the famous "Alien Eye" specimens, and this piece is what I would consider a close cousin of those iconic pieces. This full sized thumbnail is a fine quality, sharp, well-formed cuboctahedral crystal showing a primarily rich emerald green color, but when it's backlit, a wonderful rich golden-brown to reddish colored cubic "phantom" can be seen inside. Select faces are rather smooth and glassy, while others have more of a matte appearance. Additionally, when you look at the underside of the specimen, you can see it's actually crystallized underneath, with a bit of embedded Orthoclase and Muscovite, but the piece is crystallized on all sides, making it nearly a complete "floater" specimen! A beautiful and desirable example of these classic and distinctive Fluorites from this rich specimen-producing region in Namibia.
