Fluorite (multi-color) (polished)

Item Description

The Fluorites from Southern Illinois are some of the most well-known examples of the species ever found. They are beloved for their beautiful multi-colored crystals, showing a wide range of hues. A fair number of these crystals came out of the ground with serious damage and were actually intentionally cleaved into octahedrons, which found their way into countless rock shops around the US for decades. This piece is a wonderful polished (the label says diamond polished) octahedral cleavage of this classic material showing a predominantly soft golden yellow hue, but the edges have wonderful purple and blue tones on a couple corners. If you look closely, you'll see small soft bronze colored metallic crystals of Marcasite frozen inside the Fluorite for a really nice touch. As is often the case with this material, the color looks better in sunlight, as the intensity of the blue really comes out. From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015) who was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports. Collection #4760. Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
