Item Description
The Okorusu Mine is one of the premier localities for Fluorite in the modern era of mineral collection. I believe that every color of the rainbow has been seen in Okorusu Fluorites, including colorless and black. The crystals are often large textbook cubes with gorgeous internal "phantoms" that can be seen with decent backlighting. This piece is from a find in the early 2010s. It hosts dozens upon dozens of superb quality, very sharp, gemmy, multicolor cubic crystals measuring up to 1.8 cm on edge free of matrix. When backlit you will see the crystals contain excellent internal "phantoms" with a mixture of intense purple and blue hues with gorgeous reddish-pink "cores" and slight green hues here and there. I can't find any major damage of note with the naked eye on the front / display side of the piece, though a few small imperfections are visible, The piece is obviously and forgivably incomplete on the bottom where it was removed from the pocket wall, but it's in great shape overall. A selective deposition of Apatite (Fluorapatite?) can be seen coating several crystal faces on the side of the piece for a nice accent. This association is not commonly seen from this locality. This is a superb quality example of this modern classic material and will make a fantastic addition to any collection. A great value for the starting bid as the piece was priced at $4,500 in the inventory. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the size and weight of this specimen, an additional shipping charge will be required. Please ask any questions about shipping rates before bidding.
