Fluorite (mined: 1978)

The world-famous Sweet Home Mine in Colorado is obviously best-known for its superb Rhodochrosite specimens, but it has produced some VERY nice Fluorites as well. This piece dates back to 1978, when Rich Kosnar and his father-in-law Dave Bergman mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent specimens. This piece is from one of the latter pockets that Dave personally found, and he kept it in his personal collection until very recently. It features a full coverage of sharp, gemmy, beautiful blue colored cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 5 mm on matrix. The Fluorites have a partial coating of contrasting white micro Quartz for a nice touch. This classic specimen would make a great addition to any Colorado suite or a Fluorite collection. As mentioned this piece is from the collection of legendary Colorado miner, Dave Bergman. Dave is the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar.
