Item Description

The Sweet Home mine is famous for its Rhodochrosite specimens, but it has produced some VERY nice Fluorites as well. For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar and Dave Bergman mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent Rhodo specimens along with some nice sulfides and Fluorites. This piece features sharp, well-formed, deep purple cubes Fluorite with notably "stepped" faces. Additionally a few tiny crystals of Quartz are flaring out of the Fluorite which are coated by micro Rhodochrosite rhombs. A nice little reference specimen from the mine that produced the world's finest quality Rhodochrosites. Despite the smaller size, this is a pretty good quality Fluorite from the Sweet Home, and pieces like this one are almost never seen on the open market. This piece is from one of the early pockets that Rich Kosnar and Dave Bergman opened when they started mining at the Sweet Home in 1977. Formerly in the collection of Richard Kosnar.
