Item Description
This in an impressive, nearly large cabinet sized, hefty (over 1.5 kilos) display specimen of this beautiful material from this classic Bavarian Fluorite mine. This piece is filled with excellent, very lustrous, golden-green colored "stepped" cubic crystal groups of Fluorite measuring up to 5.8 cm on edge, with selective depositions of tiny Quartz crystals included with reddish-brown Hematite. If you look at the underside of the piece, you can see the Fluorite transitions into a purple hue at the center. The crystals show good internal gemminess when backlit. No major damage that I can find, and specimens of this size and quality are few and far between on the market. The mine was closed nearly 50 years ago, and you can only get these pieces from old collections. Valued $3,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#409 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection for the foreseeable future through our various platforms.
