Item Description

A gorgeous, showy, cabinet sized display specimen of bi-color cubic Fluorite with associated Calcite from the famous Rosiclare Sub-District in Southern Illinois. The piece shows very well as you can see from the photo, and it GLOWS with color when backlit as the purple / blue hues show up very well with backlighting. If you look on the edges of the crystal, you can see purple "phantom" color zoning near the exterior faces. The largest Fluorite measures 7.4 cm on edge, and the largest Calcite (which is doubly-terminated) measures 1.6 cm long. Like virtually every Fluorite from this area, the color looks better in sunlight than it does in incandescent lighting indoors. Interestingly, the back of the specimen is not complete, but it's actually not broken as it appears to be complete re-crystallized ("re-healed") after it separated from the pocket wall. This area is well known for its amazing multi-color Fluorite specimens that came out for decades, though they are few and far between on the market these days. This area is completely closed down and will never produce these specimens again. Priced at $5,000 retail.
