Item Description
Here we have robust and showy example of these classic and beautiful Fluorites from Rottleberode. This specimen is pure Fluorite, with no matrix and has an intriguing color, as it almost appears to be colorless, but in certain temperature lighting it shows a faint pinkish hue, while in other light, it's more of a silvery-grey shade. The color isn't concentrated, but there are tiny area where it's a bit stronger than others. The crystals are rather lustrous, showing textbook cuboctahedral form. The frosted octahedral faces contrasting against the scintillating stepped-growth faces of the cubic sides of the Fluorite, which really adds character to this fine piece. No damage on the front/display side of the specimen, but it's not complete on the back where it was separated from the pocket wall. The big crystal on the top of the piece measures 8.2 cm across. Very impressive from the standpoint of quality and size. Valued $2,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#430 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection for the foreseeable future through our various platforms.
