Item Description

This piece is a highly aesthetic small cabinet specimen of these classic Fluorites from the Huanggang Mine in Inner Mongolia. A group of rather sharp, GEMMY (virtually WATER-CLEAR in areas), lustrous colorless crystals of Fluorite sitting on minor Quartz create a very showy display piece of this gorgeous material. The Fluorites are predominantly octahedral in habit, but there are well-defined cubic and dodecahedral modifications on some crystals. This a classic example of the "ice" Fluorite crystals which get their name due to their lack of any color (a sign of chemical purity for Fluorite) and excellent internal gemminess. The largest Fluorite measures 2.5 cm. No major damage that I can see. Priced at $2,500. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection.
