Item Description
This piece is a beautiful and classic example of the famous "ice" Fluorite crystals from Dalnegorsk. Most Fluorites around the world have some kind of color to them, but the colorless quality of these particular Fluorites is actually an indicator of their chemical purity. These colorless crystals from Dalnegorsk are likely the most well-known examples of colorless Fluorite from any world locality. This piece hosts an excellent, very sharp, lustrous, gemmy octahedron (with modifying dodecahedral and cubic faces) measuring 3.0 cm across associated with beautiful white "poker chip" habit crystals of Calcite and prismatic Quartz with a gentle silvery hue, which have a selective coating of golden-brown Siderite on a few sides. No major damage that I can see, and the piece displays beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A wonderful and fine quality example of this elusive and eye-catching material. Valued $1,800.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#390 Ru), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
