Item Description

Contemporary finds at the Navidad Mine have produced Fluorite specimens with a beautiful purplish-pink hue (sometimes called "raspberry" Fluorites), but the OLDER material from this mine featured and impressive saturated green hue. This piece is a wonderful example of this classic and seldom seen material, featuring dozens of well-formed, rather gemmy, strong green octahedral crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm across, with a tiny bit of attached Quartz on the back. You'll also notice that there are small areas of purple colored Fluorite that can be seen on the reverse side of the piece, but the most interesting aspect is a rarely seen dendritic "fern"-like growth! I can't recall ever seeing anything like this from the Navidad Mine! I can't find any damage on the front/display side of the specimen, save the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. An excellent full cabinet-sized display specimen of this highly colorful and desirable material.
Valued $2,000.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#89 MX), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
