Item Description

A very attractive Fluorite specimen from the Anton Mine in the extreme southwestern corner of the Black Forest of Germany. The piece hosts a pair of sharp, gemmy cubic crystals measuring up to 4.0 cm on edge, free of matrix. With backlighting, you can see a beautiful mixture of attractive blue and green "phantom" color zoning inside the specimen. The saturation of the color, along with the wonderful internal gemminess makes this one of the best examples of Fluorite that we've had to offer from this locality. There are some nicks, so the piece is not pristine, but it's still a very good Fluorite from this historic mine that dates back to around 1930. Keep in mind that most of the Fluorites from the Anton Mine did not have this kind of color, (if you look on mindat, you'll see a lot of them are gray or white), so don't miss out on the chance to pick up a COLORFUL piece for your collection. A great piece for a suite of German (or specifically Black Forest) Fluorite specimens. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #19508CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
