Item Description

The Fluorites from the Shangbao Mine in China have been around long enough that they are approaching "classic" status, as they are some of the finest crystallized examples of the species from any Chinese locality. This piece is a fantastic and eye-catching miniature display specimen featurin an intergrown group of VERY GEMMY, beautiful purple and colorless crystals Fluorite with minor associated Dolomite free of matrix. The crystals show a combination of cubic and dodecahedral faces, creating a beautiful geometric form. The piece is very close to being a complete "floater", but I can see a small point of attachment on the base. The crystals are so transparent that you can see straight through them. The piece is in great shape overall with only a few minor imperfections on the edges. Good Fluorites from China are certainly drying up on the market, especially from localities like Shangbao where very little has been available in recent years.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#471 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
