Fluorite (gemmy color-change crystals) (ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection)

A gorgeous and three-dimensional display specimen from the Piaotang Mine in Chongyi Co. in Jiangxi, China featuring a group of very sharp, rather gemmy, beautiful cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 2.7 cm sitting on a matrix of small silvery Muscovite crystals with minor associated Quartz. In indoor lighting, the color of the Fluorites is a combination of greenish-blue and purple hues, but if you take the piece in sunlight, the color changes to a lovely stronger green tone. Under certain fluorescent lighting the color is more of a blue shade.   We tried photographing the color of the piece in sunlight, but our camera didn't pick it up correctly, so you'll just have to see it in person. You don't see many piece from this area on the market, and this one is certainly in the upper ranks in terms of quality and overall visceral beauty. Valued at $1,500-$1,800 retail. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
