Item Description

The Heights Mine in Weardale, England is famous for producing some beautiful cubic Fluorite specimens. This thumbnail is a great example of said material. It features a couple of razor-sharp, WATER CLEAR, colorless interpenetrant twins (the largest individual crystal measures 1.1 cm on edge) intergrown and free of matrix to create a showy display quality specimen. A small amount of silvery Galena can be seen on the front of the piece. There is a small amount of attached blue stick-tack clays on the back of the piece, so please do not mistake this for another mineral. No major damage, though the right side of the piece has some roughness on the corners. It is quite rare to find truly colorless crystals from this locality, most of them are very pale green or lilac in hue, and if you look closely you actually can see the faintest of lilac coloring in the cores of the larger twin. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12361) with an old label from Scott Williams. Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
