Fluorite (GEM quality crystals)

Item Description

One of the most prolific mineral localities in Mexico is the prodigious Naica Mine, which is not only home to the most exemplary Gypsum crystals ever discovered (the famous "Cave of Swords") but it has produced superb examples of many other mineral species, including some truly iconic Fluorites. Here we have a wonderful small cabinet sized specimen featuring several superb quality, sharp, WATER CLEAR - GEM crystals of Fluorite which are associated with minor black Sphalerite, grey Galena, white Calcite and no matrix. The largest Fluorite measure 3.7 cm across, and most of the crystals show a combination of dodecahedron and cube faces, but further down the specimen you can see hundreds of additional modifying faces on the smaller crystals. The crystals are actually colorless on the edges, but there is a beautiful mint green concentration of color at the center of the specimen, which radiates throughout the crystals. The piece is actually crystallized (or re-crystallized) on the underside, so it's complete most of the way around, and there is only a tiny bit of roughness around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. This one was difficult to photograph, but it's very attractive in person and would make a fine addition to any Fluorite suite or a collection of minerals from Naica. We had this piece valued in the inventory at $1,800 for the quality and the fact these gem crystals are not easy to find on the market these days.
