Fluorite (GEM "phantom" cubes)

Fluorites from La Viesca are among the most colorful and fine quality cubic Fluorites from any world locality. They remind me of similar specimens from Southern Illinois in terms of size, quality, color and gemminess. Here we have a lovely small cabinet Fluorite crystal group showing superb cubic form with slight dodecahedral modifications on the edges creating have a slightly stepped growth in areas. The larger crystals show excellent "phantom" color zoning which is very easy to see since the are nearly WATER CLEAR! The largest cube measures 3.0 cm on edge and features a range of colors with a purple "core" that transitions into a soft blue hue that is nearly colorless at the edges. Like most Fluorites, this piece looks best in sunlight. The Fluorites are sitting on a bit of Quartz and very little matrix, which gives the piece balance. I can't find any damage of note, and the back of the piece is not broken, it's actually fully recrystallized "re-healed", so it's crystallized on all sides. A showy, fine quality and impressive display specimen of this classic and beloved material. Valued in the inventory at $1,200.
