Item Description
An very attractive and HARD TO FIND locality specimen of Fluorite from this obscure locality in Tasmania. Sharp, highly lustrous, VERY GEMMY, nearly colorless cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 8 mm sit on a matrix of Limonite which has pseudomorph preexisting compressed rhombohedra of Magnesite. The Fluorites are as sharp, lustrous and gemmy as any I've seen from this locality. The Magnesites from this locality are often referred to as Ferroan Magnesite, but this is a complete replacemnt, as the original Magnesite crystals are now totally pseudomorphed by iron. Great quality overall, and if you collect worldwide Fluorites, this is a superb opportunity to pick up a piece of this rare material. Valued at $900. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12507). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
