Item Description

The Fluorite specimens from Southern Illinois are among the most recognizable and colorful examples of the species from any world locality. This area is completely closed down, and what used to be a fairly plentiful commodity on the market has now dwindled to rather difficult to find. This piece is a fantastic small cabinet display piece featuring a superb, razor-sharp, well-formed, WATER CLEAR cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 1.5 cm on edge. The piece is essentially a solid "plate" of Fluorite with no real matrix, which allows the beautiful color and absolute GLASS-LIKE transparency to come through. Light most Illinois Fluorites, this piece displays a color change in different lighting with a purple hue indoors that shifts to more of a blue tone in sunlight. Very little damage to the front/display side of the piece, and the only roughness is around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. the piece has a small prop glued to the back so it displays as seen in the photos. The quality is as good as it gets for Southern Illinois, and the overall appearance makes for a fantastic and truly eye-catching example of these famous and sought after Fluorites. Priced at $5,000 in the inventory. From the collection of Dr. Richard "Dick" Heck, a well-known Illinois and Mexico collector.
