Fluorite (GEM crystals)

Item Description

A fine quality specimen from the early days of Shangbao (circa late 1990s) material appearing on the market. This wonderful small cabinet features a central group of GEM QUALITY, sharp, glassy, soft purple colored cubic crystals measuring up to 2.8 cm on edge, with a bit of attached matrix on the back. Most of the Fluorites are in very good condition, but I can see a few small imperfections, so the piece is not pristine. When you backlight the crystals, you can see they are actually bi-colored, as gentle green hues are visible deep within, and there are even some slight ''phantom'' zoning lines present. It's hard to convey the quality in a photo or a video, but this is a really attractive piece with fine quality crystals. This particular style was only found for a very brief time in at Shangbao, and never seen again. Valued $2,000.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#475 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
