Item Description

A large, fine, old-time, classic combination piece from the famous mines at Weardale. Glassy, transparent, yellowish-green fluorite cubes to 1.6 cm are very richly and attractively scattered on the sculptural, vuggy matrix with lustrous, cuboctahedral galena crystals. The matrix is massive yellow fluorite. The fluorites and galenas are in super condition. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and purchased from Walt Lidstrom in 1967. Ex Smithsonian/Roebling Collection with a R6853 painted on the back. This piece would have been purchased by the Smithsonian with Roebling money, probably in the late 1920s or 1930s. Bright purple fluoresence. An excellent combination old-timer with a nice provenance.
