Item Description
Stalactitic in nature, this 360-degree stalk is likely from the famous Alston Moor District in Cumbria (no mine name attribution survives, but it has a classic look). Composed of straw-colored cubes of Fluorites to 1.5 cm on edge, the piece looks attractive from all directions, except for the base, of course. Adding greatly to the importance of this small cabinet specimen are the hundreds of small Siderate blades that adorn the Fluorites. On one side, the coverage is nearly complete, while on the other side the Siderite (some with micro Chalcopyrites) preferentially drapes the edges of the Fluorites crystals, creating a wonderful aesthetic. And of course, the Fluorites have great fluorescence. In fact, English Fluorites are where the term 'fluorescence' comes from. Collected around mid-1800s to 1900, this is a fine English specimen. From the noted historic classics collection of Richard 'Dick' Hauck of New Jersey. Superb example in the size range, and very beautiful.
