Fluorite (fluorescent) with Quartz - rare color style

The mines in and around Eastgate are famous for their penetration twin Fluorites, so to get such a quality Fluorite that displays a more individual habit is an interesting and welcome contrast. Most are green or purple, or something in between - but this is a rare piece from the so called "Lemon Meringue Pocket"...not often seen for sale! The GOLDEN colored, prismatic, partially-gemmy Fluorites range up to 2.2 cm on edge, and they have a luster that varies from good to satiny. The fluorescence is the classic and strong bluish-purple for which English Fluorites are renowned (and, lest we forget, from which the term 'fluorescence' is actually derived). Much of the matrix and the Fluorites are coated with gemmy and lustrous Quartz crystals that look like little jewels, and the add so much to the beauty and interest of the piece. This small cab is in very good condition with just a little bit of edgewear, which belies the difficult mining conditions that are encountered in this area. This is a fine, large and unusual specimen of the more recent mining done at this famous quarry. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. Valued $2000
