Fluorite (fluorescent) on Sphalerite - old classic

English Fluorites have a long history and a mystique all their own, and this is a true old classic! Not only are these old finds responsible for the very term "fluorescence", but their colors vary widely and the crystals can be of such high quality that they were at one time used in top end optical lenses. This outstanding large cabinet specimen is impressive on many levels. The crystals range up to 2.5 cm, they are gemmy with frosted cores, and the light, honey-yellow color is appealing. And of course, the fluorescence is vivid and rich. The Fluorites rest on a layer of dark, intergrown, crystalline Sphalerite. The piece is so impressive and commanding, and the condition is EXCELLENT, which makes this even more of a treasure when you consider that the Boltsburn Mine closed in 1931!
