Item Description
This specimen of spherical fluorite is from a 2011 find from this now well-known and remote Inner Mongolia, China locality. We call these 'bug-eye' fluorites for their isolated, bulbous shape. The jauntily placed, lustrous and translucent, 2.0 cm ball is actually composed of sharp, intergrown, pretty sea-green octahedrons with scattered complementary purple octahedra. The 'bug-eye' rests on sharply terminated quartz crystal with flower bulb-like, stepped-growth faces. The fluorite ball and quartz termination are pristine. Contacting at the base and on the back of the quartz crystal are noted, but have modest impact to the showiness of this riveting and rare style fluorite combination piece. Moderate purple fluorescent.
