Item Description

Striking, highly unusual large fluorite from this less well-known New Mexico fluorite mining district. This sculptural, 360-degree tabular rib is totally covered with fascinating, densely stepped-growth, modified octahedrons with pinacoidal terminations, to 2.0 cm on edge. They look like a fantastic jumble of Mayan stepped pyramids! The translucent and lustrous crystals have pretty mint-green color. And - the octos on one side have a preferential overgrowth of white fluorite, that looks like snow! Interesting chemistry and fluid flow here. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a single bruised crystal on one side. Purple fluorescence. This District is known for octahedral fluorite, but this choice large specimen has a vastly different style of crystallization. Ex Gary Weaver Collection and valued at $350.
