Item Description
A beautiful and striking Southern Ilinois fluorite specimen. The two intergrown cubes have this gorgeous, rich golden-amber color. The highly translucent crystals would probably be transparent, except for the very unusual, preferential, stepped growth/frosted/etched faces. Some faces are lustrous with a crackly texture, while some faces look frosted and have a nearly matte finish. Complete all-around, a bit of edgewear is noted, but has minimal impact on the stunning quality of this fine specimen. Unlike many Southern Illinois fluorites, these have decent white fluorescence. Uncommon and outstanding material from this famous locale. The rich yellow color reminds me of Hilton Mine fluorites. Ex Bob Borofsky Collection, owner of the well-known William Wise Fluorite Mine in New Hampshire.
