Item Description

The old famous Gelbe Birke (Yellow Birch) Mine in Saxony is was mined for silver dating back to the 1700s, and later transitioned into a producer of tin (Cassiterite) and Fluorite. This piece is one of the most attractive examples of these highly sought after Fluorites that we've had to offer from this locality. The piece features a few sharp, well-formed, gemmy octahedra with a beautiful green color at the center which is highlighted by a selective deposition / overgrowth of stark purple Fluorite on the tips and edges of the crystals. The largest Fluorite measures 2.0 cm on edge, and they are sitting beautifully on the underlying matrix. The very bottom corner of the Fluorite group is incomplete, otherwise the specimen is in superb shape and looks fantastic in person. I love the bi-color effect created by the green and purple of the Fluorite, and one rarely sees crystals like this from any world locality. Priced in the inventory at $950. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8212). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
