Item Description
An interesting cleaved section of richly colored green Fluorite from near Salida, Colorado. Salida sits in Chaffee County, and is not too far from the famous locality at Mt. Antero, and even though Fluorite is found at Mt. Antero, this piece was simply labeled as coming from near Salida, so that's how we'll leave it. The specimen doesn't really have any good crystal faces per se, but when backlit, one can see not only the beautiful internal color, but large sections of nearly water-clear Fluorite. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that says he acquired it from Chris Christenson.
