Item Description

A classic example of the octahedral cleavage sections of Fluorite from the famous Minerva No. 1 Mine in Illinois. The larger broken Fluorites were often saved and intentionally cleaved into their natural octahedral form by miners as gifts to kids or just a way to pass the time. There's actually a bit of skill in cleaving the crystals into equant octahedrons. This piece has the classic lavender color in indoor lighting, but turns to the classic blue hue in sunlight. This specimen dates back to the 1950s-1960s, and even though there were thousands of tons of this material at one time, very few seems to be on the market now. A good overall representation of this classic material from Hardin County.
