Item Description

A wonderful full cabinet sized display specimen from the famous May Stone and Sand Quarry in Fort Wayne, Indiana featuring excellent, very sharp, GEMMY, pale yellow colored cubes measuring up to 1.5 cm on edge, sitting on host rock matrix. Many of the crystals are WATER-CLEAR, and you can see straight through them to the underlying matrix. Nearly every crystal is damage free, though a few small imperfections can be seen. The most impressive aspect of this specimen is the fact that it features so many crystals. If you're familiar with these specimens, they often only feature a few crystals (or sometimes a single crystal), so the wealth of crystals on this piece makes it a very desirable for any fan of US or Midwest US Fluorites. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #0523CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
