Item Description

A classic piece of Colorado mining history from the Brent Lockhart Collection. This showy and excellent CABINET plate consists of translucent, blocky, bi-colored, fluorite cubes to 7.2 cm. The moderately lustrous fluorite is a light lavender on the outside and is cored with classic, "San Juan green". A rich preferential dusting of drusy quartz or calcite completes this fine specimen. Two spots of bruising are noted, but are modest detractions to the overall quality of this important Colorado fluorite. According to Brent's label, he acquired this specimen in 1974 for $200, while the mine was still active. $200 was not cheap for an American Tunnel fluorite in 1974! Valued today at $1250-1500 for quality, size and famous locale. Comes with a custom-made and labeled lucite base (valued at $125) as a free bonus.
