Item Description

A really cool from the isolated find at the Xiefan Mine featuring a group of sharp, very lustroux, deep grape jelly purple cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 2.3 cm on edge associated with prismatic gemmy colorless Quartz. The Fluorites have the characteristic and distinctive "stepped" or "built up" faces which gives them more depth and a three dimensional quality. Excellent condition, only a few minor "rubs". The reverse side of the specimen shows some really interesting almost "fibrous" looking crystals, but upon close inspection, they actually appear to be highly compressed Calcite crystals. Priced at $950 in the inventory. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
