Item Description
A classic specimen from the famous Cave-in-Rock Subdistrict in Southern Illinois. Sharp, well-formed, DARK purple colored cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 8mm sit on a layer of gemmy, nearly colorless, Calcite scalenohedra on matrix. The Fluorites actually show defined internal "phantoms" when backlit. This material was once common on the market, but has since dried up and is rarely seen for sale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#873). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
