Item Description
Spectacular (for this locality) gem, pretty light green, cuboctahedral Fluorite crystals very attractively clustered on the fluorite matrix from the famed Rogers Mine of Ontario. The impressive, large, dominating, water-clear crystal is 5.0 x 4.7 x 3.6 cm. You can see straight through all of the fluorites and see the white Baryte deposited on the underlying massive fluorite matrix. The striking large crystals are essentially pristine. Outside faces to the large crystal and an adjacent crystal are contacted, but have no damage, per se. Rich purple LW UV fluorescence, as you would expect. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and acquired in 1982. His detailed label tells the story of the piece. From an old miner's stash collected prior to the 1961 closing of the mine. Hard to photograph, as the water-clear clarity, glassiness and satin luster faces made photography difficult. MUCH BETTER in person! An exceptional gemmy, old-time matrix fluorite with baryte from the well-known Rogers Mine. Valued $1500-2000.
