Item Description

Sharp fluorite octahedrons, to 1.2 cm, aesthetically line a 5.5 cm vug in sandstone matrix on this showy and rare old-timer from this extinct fluorite mine. Most of the octos are covered with nubby drusy quartz, but a few gray-brown crystals without coatings peer out in the vug. Undoubtedly old-time material from the Dr. Ziehr Collection. Kay Robertson acquired this piece, # 2422, from Dr. Ziehr in March, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
