Item Description

A classic Southern Illinois fluorite form - the cleavage octahedron. Miners would chip these out of high-grade massive fluorite as gifts or to pass the time. This classic, translucent and lustrous, rich golden-yellow cutie has a nifty band of hydrocarbon (bitumen) droplets at the base. The hydrocarbons fluoresce yellow, while the fluorite does not fluoresce. Common in the 1950 and 60s, you don't see many around anymore in this size and fine quality with hydrocarbons. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock.
